PRESENTATIONS

The Hazel Park Amateur Radio Club meets on the second Wednesday of each month, September thru May, at 7:30 PM at the Hoover Elementary School, 23720 Hoover, Hazel Park MI 48030.

Most meetings feature an entertaining technical presentation covering some aspect of Amateur Radio, club business, and socializing. Some of our guests have given permission for us to post their presentations on our website.

You may download them and use them for your personal use only. If you have any questions please contact the person who made the presentation.

Field Day Breakfast & Preparations

FIELD DAY ANNOUNCEMENT

We usually arrive at the field day site around 11 am -11:30 am Saturday morning. The people that want to have breakfast before hand should meet at the Big Boy at the Baldwin Rd. exit of I-75 between 9 - 9:30.

Bring some folding chairs if you want something to sit upon and bedding if you want to sleep over on the bunk bed (otherwise it has no covers or sheets and no pillows). Bring shower stuff if you want to shower there. Bring your own pop this year as we are only providing water. If you want a fan to cool you off bring one. There are tables in the rooms that we use for operating or if you like you can bring you own folding table. Bring a flashlight and bug spray and since we might have rain I suggest bringing rain gear.

Field Day

Field Day is the last full weekend in June. We will be on the air for 24 hours and need operators for the entire 24 hour period (even in the middle of the night).

This is a contest to test our ability to operate in the field on emergency power and with portable antennas. We rely on the generosity of our members who donate their time and equipment for the weekend. In the past we thank Mike WD8S, Gerry K8GT, Dee N8UZE and Carl N8AE for lending their radio equipment. And Bob WB8ATZ for making sure that our other equipment is all working and up to snuff and bringing them out to the Field Day site.

Wel have something for everyone. No matter if you are heavy into contesting or just want to operate and make some Q’s. Experience not required—just that you want to give it the old college try.

We also will have the GOTA station. Anyone who has gotten their license in the past year or does not have a license can work the GOTA station. There will be a control operator on duty at all times. Bring your kids to introduce them to ham radio. We get extra points for them and see if they can get 20 QSO’s so their score willl count. Remember with the GOTA station 20 is the magic number. Each operator must make at least 20 QSO’s for them to count.

ARROW Club Dayton Bus Trip

“For the past five years, ARROW has sponsored a one-day bus ride to Dayton. We generally leave around 4:30 am and get back to Ann Arbor around 9:30 pm. This gets you there by 8 am, when the swap opens, and we leave at 5 pm, when the swap closes. Once again, ARROW is planning a one-day motor coach trip to the Dayton Hamvention. This year, the date is Saturday, May 17, 2008.You’ll travel in style with your friends in a fully appointed motor coach and avoid the expense and stress of driving and parking. As an added bonus, we will have an attended booth, and would be happy to sell your equipment there. You can also use the booth as a spot to drop off purchases.The bus, like the one shown above, will depart for Dayton will depart from the Pioneer High School parking lot (at the corner of Stadium and Main in Ann Arbor) at 4:30 am from and arrive in Dayton around 8:00am. This will give you a full day to tour the exhibits, visit manufacturers’ booths, attend the seminars, and go bargain hunting at the swap meet. Bagels and coffee will be provided.

Tickets for the trip are $60.00 per person for non-members and $50.00 for ARROW members, and are refundable up to April 27th.

ARRL DX Contest

This weekend is the ARRL DX Contest Phone (SSB). The contest lasts 48 hours. It starts 0000 UTC Saturday (Friday Evening) and ends 2400 UTC Sunday, Sunday night. The Objective is for amateurs work as many amateur stations in as many DXCC countries of the world as possible on 160, 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 meter bands. The exchange of information is signal report and state (MI or Michigan). The ARRL Contest Branch is again offering pins for the 2008 International DX Contest. The sharp four-color design will prominently display the year 2008. To earn the International DX Contest pin, all you need to do is complete 100. There are not separate pins for each mode. You may contact the same station on different bands. The cost is $7 (US) in the US, its possessions and Canada, and $10 for others (postage included). Your pins will be shipped once all logs for the contest have been processed and verified by the log checking team for publication in QST. To purchase your pin send a copy of the first page of your Cabrillo log file along with your payment to: DX Contest Pins, ARRL, 225 Main St, Newington CT 06111. Pins are only guaranteed for orders received by April 4, 2008. Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery after the order deadline.

HPARC Dayton Hamvention Plans

Dayton Hamvention is Friday, May 16 Sunday, May 18
HPARC has rooms reserved for Thursday-Saturday nights at the usual location:
Hampton Inn

Troy, OH 45373
This is located next to I-75 at exit 74.
All rooms have 2 double beds. 8 are non-smoking, while 2 are smoking.
Rooms are available for any combination of the above nights.
HPARC Room rates, already including tax, are $95/night.
Please print, complete, and include the attached form with your payment. Payments are due no-later then Wednesday, April 9.

HPARC is planning to have a tent and cooler with soft drinks in the flea market area for your comfort.
The HPARC Junkology Van may be able to haul out that rare 1943 Kugel gizmometer you may find. Items hauled out of Hamvention for HPARC members must be picked-up at the Hampton Inn the same night. I will not be able to haul anything back to MI or deliver to your hotel. Haul-out space will be very limited Saturday evening. I reserve the right to refuse any items when the van is full or items with dirt, liquid, chemicals, insects, rodents, forest animals, or nuclear waste.
